The Center for Senior Services

The Garden Club at the Center for Senior Services in Wakefield was started over seven years ago by two Master Gardeners, Earle and Ann Perkins. Currently under the direction of Audrey Pincins and Claremary Sweeney, the project aims to teach seniors about sustainable gardening techniques.

Five Master Gardeners prepare classes and demonstrations that are taught in the Center every Friday morning, 9:45 – 11:00 a.m. The information learned is put into practice in several outdoor areas, including raised herb and bulb gardens, a hummingbird and wildflower garden and a circular garden.

Members take part in annual filed trips – to the Kinney Azalea Gardens in the spring, to East Farm for apple-picking in the fall, and to the Master Gardener Annual Poinsettia Sale at East Farm in December.
Members also participate in an outdoor tea in June to celebrate their hard work and valued friendships. In December a pot luck dinner marks the end of the growing season and the beginning of plans for a new year together.
